SMA Dailey Gets Fitted for ‘Pink and Green’ Uniform

Members of PEO Soldier’s PdM Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment and the SPIE Public Affairs Officer staff met with the Sergeant Major of the Army (SMA) at the Pentagon today to fit him for the proposed Pink & Green uniform.

During AUSA we, here at SSD, showed you prototypes of this proposed dress uniform which is inspired by the World War Two-era Pink amd Green, so named due to the underlying hue of the two-tone jacket and trousers.

Look for an interview with SMA Dailey by the PEO Soldier PAO team soon which will discuss the uniform.

NTOA Announces Educational Scholarship Program Applications Now Open

The James Torkar Educational Scholarship Program application period is open from Nov. 1, 2017 through April 1, 2018 for dependent children of active NTOA “Individual” members.

Doylestown, Pa. (November 2017) – The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) is pleased that the James Torkar Educational Scholarship Program application period is now open from Nov. 1, 2017 through April 1, 2018. This program benefits dependent children of members with active NTOA “Individual” memberships that are at least 16 years old and U.S. citizens. It provides funding for college tuition and other eligible expenses, such as room and board, required books, required supplies, required equipment, mandatory fees and / or special needs services.

For the 2017/2018 Scholarship period, two, $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to each region: Eastern, Central and Western.

Scholarships may be awarded one of two ways:
The creation and funding of an IRS 529 College Savings Plan.
Direct payment to the educational institution.

Under current IRS regulations, a 529 plan fund grows tax-free from federal income tax and when used for qualified higher educational expenses may be withdrawn free from federal income taxes. The NTOA Educational Scholarships will be awarded with a parent or duly appointed guardian as the owner and the dependent child as the beneficiary.

Any active “Individual” member may sponsor a child of a deceased NTOA member for a scholarship. Family members of NTOA employees and directors are not eligible for this award. A nominated individual may only win one NTOA scholarship.

Nearly all colleges, universities, community colleges, law, medical or business schools qualify. Many career or technical schools are eligible. Conference organisers SMi Group have released a brochure for the upcoming, 4th annual Future Soldier Technology conference, returning to London, UK on the 13th and 14th March 2018.

Building on the successes of last year’s meeting, Future Soldier Technology 2018 will also include a dedicated pre-conference focus day on Dismounted Soldier Situational Awareness, on 12th March 2018.

Future soldier programmes continue to be critically important for dismounted infantry operations around the world. Reminder – First Annual ADS Inc UAS + Counter UAS Industry Day Is Next Week

ADS Inc is presenting their First Annual UAS + Counter UAS Industry Day on November 7th & 8th at the Military Aviation Museum in Va Beach.

This is a very interesting topic for me. New capabilities roll out regularly for Unmanned Aerial Systems. But maybe even more important, drones have become the number one asymmetric threat due to their wide proliferation. Their payloads increase while their cost goes down making them a solution of choice for adversaries seeking low-cost ISR and precision weapons. Developing an adaptable strategy to counter them is critical.

During the two-day event, vendors will present eight, one-hour sessions to educate attendees on their technologies.

This event is not open to the public.
