US Army Eliminates Distributed Learning Courses

May 16th, 2024

Effective Immediately: To meet the CSA’s intent of eliminating training which is redundant, antiquated, or doesn’t support warfighting and lethality, the US Army has determined it will eliminate approximately 346 hours of Distributed Learning Courses for Officers and NCOs.

An analysis determined these courses were redundant and/or antiquated when assessed against current training requirements and needs.

Enlisted courses being eliminated are Distributed Learning Courses (DLC) I–VI (formerly known as Structured Self Development (SSD) I–VI), they account for 253 hours or 31 days.

Officer courses being eliminated are the Distance Learning Prerequisite for Commanders Career Course and the Distance Learning Prerequisite for Commanding General Staff Officers Course (P920), these account for 93 hours or 12 days.

164 hours of prerequisite Distance Learning Courses remain and are currently under analysis for potential elimination in the future.

An ALARACT message will publish later today detailing full information on this change.

SOF Select 24 – Mechanix Wear

May 15th, 2024

Mechanic Wear showed us their TAA Precision Pro High-Dexterity Grip Glove – Covert. It’s a mouthful but will all make sense as we walk through the features, it will all sense.

TAA means they are trade act compliant; in this case manufactured in Laos. While not Berry compliant, TAA compliance means you can still use certain government procurement methods to buy them like Government Purchase Card and GSA. Precision Pro is the model and these are cut for dexterity with hourglass finger profiles.

The Grip Glove is best explained with the photo above which shows Mechanix Wear’s Padlock Silicone Grip technology. The gloves are also touch screen compatible. Finally, the color is Covert which is a fancy term for Black.

Offered in XSmall – XXLarge.

The new FLOW 556K L is a new variant of the popular FLOW 556K with a locking collar. In fact, the L or Lima designation is for Locking Collar, just like the 556 is for the caliber, K is for short or Kurz and FLOW is a Flow-Through design.

Here, you can see it next to a standard 556K Flow which is DMLS printed in 17-4 Stainless. Designed for toxic fume exposure mitigation, it also offers flash reduction, sound reduction, recoil reduction, accuracy, and repeatability by its unique Flow-Through helical coil and core deflector design. It is full-auto rated and compatible on 5.56, 17 HMR, and 5.7 platforms.

The Lima model of this 3D printed suppressor is currently only available through the Mission Team for authorized customers who are looking for the extra confidence of a locking collar.

Magpul Unveils Enhanced Lever Gun Accessories

May 15th, 2024

I was previewed these new products during SOF Week in Tampa but wasn’t sure when they were going to announce them. If you’re a lever gun shooter, pull your barstool up to the bar.

The items include the new ELG™ M-LOK Hand Guard – 1895 and ELG™ M-LOK® Stock – Marlin® 1895/1894/336.

Here are Magpul’s descriptions:

The ELG M-LOK Hand Guard is an easy way to optimize the front of your Marlin 1895-pattern lever-action rifle. The 12” long hand guard installs easily and features an integrated hand stop that can also be used to brace your gun when needed. M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions also give you plenty of space for mounting accessories such as lights, slings, and bipods. For a better grip on your gun when you’re firing modern, heavy-recoiling .45-70 Government rounds, the ELG Hand Guard is also compatible with both styles of Magpul Rail Covers.

For the rear of your rifle, our ELG M-LOK Stock draws performance-enhancing features from our other popular stocks to give your Marlin a modern makeover. With adjustable length-of-pull and comb height for various optics, weatherized onboard storage for extra ammunition or accessories, and the ability to attach M-LOK accessories and slings, you can add even more capability to your lever-action rifle.

The stock’s internal storage comes equipped with a quiver to hold six (6) .45-70 Gov’t or 30-30 Win cartridges, and an open storage compartment insert. The stock also accepts QD cups for a mounting a sling, with one sling swivel built-in at the bottom of the pistol grip for shorter slings and a higher muzzle-down carry option. There’s even a pair of M-LOK slots on each side of the stock for accessories like an ammo saddle. Head over to Magpul.com and shake the dust off your Old West classic today.

Magpul will have these accessories, as well as other new items, on display this weekend in Dallas for the NRA Annual Meeting and Exhibition.
