Wednesday, May 30th, 2018

V Seven Weapon Systems Magnesium Hyperlight Handguard 1

With most .308 rifles weighing quite a bit more than their AR-15 counterpart, end users have been looking for ways to shed some weight wherever possible. The Hyper-Light family of hanguards are manufactured from a blended aluminum & magnesium alloy which yields an approximately 30% reduction in material weight compared to commonly used 6061 aluminum.

The 308 Hyper-Light Handguards are available in four different lengths which are 10.75”, 13.5”, 15” and 16.5” in both MLOK and KeyMod. The finish is a plasma deposition process that provides a tough ceramic-like coating with superior wear resistance compared to anodizing. Each 308 Hyper-Light Handguard comes with all required mounting hardware including a Grade 5 Titanium Barrel Nut, Barrel Nut Wrench and Screws.

CANSEC 18 – Logistik Unicorp Advanced SOF Combat Uniform Prototype

Wednesday, May 30th, 2018

Last year, Canadian Special Operations Forces began their quest for a new Advanced SOF Combat Uniform. Several companies are currently competing for that business.

At CANSEC, Logistik Unicorp displayed their prototype for that program. It is made from Enhanced NYCO which is no melt, no drip and their own proprietary FR knit for the torso of the shirt. Also seen here is a prototype overwhite ensemble, complete with Pack Cover and handwarmer.

They also incorporated a few pocket innovations. For instance, the flapped upper arm pockets are right at the seam and inset. They feature covered, slotted buttons.

The pants have Knife slot as well as flaps for the front slash pockets as well as thigh cargo pockets.

Widget Wednesday – DeWalt Battery Adapters

Wednesday, May 30th, 2018

Many SOF elements deploy on foreign missions for an indefinite period of time in austere environments. The need to be self-sufficient also often includes having to build the infrastructure they need to for accommodation, training, and operations. To get this job done, commercially available power tools are in common use.

Commercial power tools are also necessary for the maintenance of Indigenously Owned Vehicles (IOV), Non-Tactical Vehicles (NTV), and Non-Standard Tactical Vehicles (NSTV) as well and are a ‘must have’ on any extended operations with such vehicles.

Finally, much of the specialized equipment used by forces with specific, unique mission sets such as breaching, demolition, and EOD uses commercial power tool batteries as well.

Until now, the ability to keep these batteries charged in environments with unreliable or non-existent AC power infrastructure has been a significant challenge – to say nothing of the extra space and weight taken up with their special wall charger units.

Thanks to our recently developed DeWalt Tool Battery Adapters for the SPM-622 Squad Power Manager, units can now keep all of their batteries charged up no matter how austere the AO. Our SPM + DeWalt Adapter combinations also enable units to get double-duty of their DeWalt batteries by using them as a power source for their other gear as well.

DeWalt Batteries currently supported by the SPM include the 14.4V, 18V, and now the 20V – with the slide-on Adapter as well. DeWalt Tool Battery Adapter’s for the ABC-812 Adaptive Battery Charger are also in development and will be released soon.
