SIMI VALLEY, Calif., Dec. 10, 2020 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), today announced the introduction of its Extended Range Antenna (ERA), the latest addition to AeroVironment’s growing line of network connectivity solutions. The ERA is a lightweight, portable antenna array kit designed to integrate seamlessly with AeroVironment’s standard RF head antenna to support a diverse range of missions.
The ERA add-on kit narrows the antenna beam width, extending the command and control range up to 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) with minimal impact to its size, weight and power (SWAP) footprint. Similar to the standard RF head antenna, the ERA is manually positioned. The included RF Unit switch allows users to toggle between omnidirectional mode, for short-range operations, and extended range mode, for longer-range operations. The ERA supports both M1/2/5 and M3/4/6 Digital Data Link (DDL) operating bands.
By adding the ERA kit to their existing AeroVironment RF antenna, UAS flight operators can immediately expand their operational capabilities, gaining actionable battlefield intelligence at greater stand-off range to maximize their stealth and safety. When used in combination with other AeroVironment network connectivity options, the ERA provides an enhanced level of operational flexibility. This enables teams to coordinate command and control transfer of UAS, such as Puma LE, easily over greater distances, maximizing the aircraft’s multi-mission capabilities, in day or night operations, across dynamically changing environments.
“AeroVironment continues to incorporate direct customer and user feedback into our product development investments to address increasingly complex and dynamic mission requirements,” said Rick Pedigo, AeroVironment vice president of sales and business development. “Not only do operators benefit from available options in terms of UAS capabilities, but they can also benefit from a selection of antenna options that are portable, easy to operate and provide extended range and multi-mission capabilities.”
Further expanding its connectivity solutions, AeroVironment recently announced updates to its Long Range Tracking Antenna (LRTA), which it now offers in two versions to support M1/2/5 and M3/4/6 DDL frequency bands. AeroVironment’s network connectivity product line includes the pocketable, short-range pDDL (5 km), standard RF antenna (20 km), ERA (40 km) and LRTA (60 km) capabilities in both M1/2/5 and M3/4/6 bands.

Finally, the Gucci chest rig you’ve been clamoring for! Ok, truthfully it’s not Gucci; it’s Louis Vuitton, but same pedigree, right?
Anyway, the Flex Micro Chest Rig from Flex Tac is designed for when you just have to flex on ’em. Made of fabric with the premium fashion brand marking your girlfriend tries to browbeat you into buying for her, it’s still a fightin’ rig at heart: made with Duraflex and ITW compatible buckles, nylon webbing and threads, it’s designed to interface with most industry standard plate carriers. Basically, this baby’s just as at home in a conflict zone as any Parisian runway, but that’s just being redundant.
This particular package includes:
Also, we feel it’s important to address this: calling this rig Gucci was half-right, because you’re not just stuck with LV fabric… you can also pick either Gucci or Burberry if Louis Vuitton just ain’t your thing.
Made to order with a 3-week lead time.
You can pre-order your own Flex Micro Chest Rig at flextac.myshopify.com/collections/chest-rigs/products/flex-micro-chest-rig-pre-order.
My favorite movie of all time is “Apocalypse Now” so it’s a rare treat that I get to combine that movie and SSD (unless you follow our IG account).
For years I’ve threatened to show up to SHOT Show dressed as the Photojournalist, played by Dennis Hopper. Sure, I’ve got Tigerstripe coming out of my ears, but that Montagnard shirt is a tough nut to crack. That is until now.
London’s Maharishi has introduced the Photojournalist Shirt, featuring “Hill Tribe Embroidery.” Of course, I ordered it. It’s not a stitch for stitch copy, but you can definitely see the inspiration.
I purchased the Black version, but they also make an OD one. Made from crushed hemp, the shirt is very comfortable. The embroidery is also very nicely done but the full length sleeves are a bit long to be an accurate copy. Additionally, it’s European sizing, so go up one.
I’ve been a Maharishi customer for years and they’ve created some amazing camouflage patterns and styles. It’s always been cool to return from London with a surprise or two. But these days, they have a store front in New York, and even an order from the home office is dispatched the the US in a matter of days so I don’t have to wait fit a trip overseas.
Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes.
Look for the photojournalist at a SHOT Show in the future.

Torrent Suppressors is proud to announce that Torrent has teamed up with Joe Gaddini of SWR to reintroduce world class suppression into a market that has for too long accepted “status quo” and mediocre suppression of sound.
We at Torrent are excited to enter this new collaboration.
Joe Gaddini holds the patent on one of the most significant, historic and effective silencers designs ever patented in the United States. So much so that a lot of current suppressor manufacturers are using a lesser variant of his patented design.
At Torrent, we have vast experience in materials science and industrial welding technology. With the SWR Omega Technology (U.S. patent No: 6,575,074) our talented engineer has combined the best baffle design of the last two decades with modern design aesthetics and materials to create a technically superior overall product.
We look forward to bringing you the Torrent/SWR Line of suppressors.

CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN AIR FORCE STATION, Colo. —
A Special Forces Operations Detachment – Alpha (SFOD-A) with 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) put their combat dive skills to use November 5, 2020 where one would least expect: in the heart of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex.
Inside the complex are three reservoirs that hold water for a variety of uses, including cooling the mountain’s generators and expelled exhaust. Because the mountain is designed to function independently, the water systems are vital to the success of the mountain’s operations. Assessing the Structural integrity of the reservoirs and ensuring the water is flowing freely through the cave systems that connect them keeps things running smoothly.
“They originally contracted with a civilian company to get this done,” says the Officer in Charge of the Dive LIfe Support Maintenance Facility at 10th SFG (A). “My brother, an Air Force Logistical Officer tasked to the Space Force, recommended they get in contact with (us) to do it for free.”
The facility manager of the complex and the DLSMF and a chosen combat dive SFOD-A set out to accomplish the mission.
“Dive operations don’t happen very often in special forces,” says the OIC. “This was a good chance for us to go out and showcase our capabilities as a legitimate maritime force within (Special Operations Command) to actually do a real world mission. It’s not infiltrating into enemy country or territory, but it was a chance for us to show everyone that we do have this capability and it’s important to keep the capability within the Special Forces community.”
10th SFG (A) to establish and develop relationships outside of the Army and Special Operations Command. It started a relationship with the Cheyenne Mountain complex to provide future opportunities for real world missions, training and equipment testing. These relationships are essential to interoperability within different branches of the military enhancing our overall capabilities as one united force.
