Galvion Signs Major Helmet Contract with Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation

Friday, July 31st, 2020

Galvion, a world leader in innovative head protection systems and power management solutions, has signed a new contract to supply the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), with a suite of helmet systems. Awarded following a full and open competition, the 7-year contract is worth approximately USD $23.5 million. Galvion will deliver new helmets across two unique helmet geometries and additionally, has established a spare parts and life extension programme with estimated completion in 2034.   As well as the Danish MoD, the Danish Police and Ministry of Foreign Affairs can also use this framework contract to procure and support their own specific helmets.

DALO is not a new customer to Galvion; in 2012, Galvion (under its former corporate name Revision Military) won a contract to deliver helmets and spare parts to Denmark over a seven-year period. Following a competitive technical assessment process including comprehensive user trials, this newest contract extends an already strong relationship with the DALO. Starting in Q4 2020, Galvion will begin delivering a combination of their flagship Batlskin Caiman® Special Forces helmet system and the newly launched PDxT™ helmet. The PDxT introduces a new helmet geometry to balance space, comfort and impact performance together with a low-profile shell.  Both helmet platforms include the very latest APEX lining system, which can be configured to meet a variety of impact standards and mission requirements.

Major Kasper Riis from DALO said: “We’re pleased that Galvion won the tender and therefore will continue as our ongoing supplier of helmet systems, following an extensive competitive assessment to establish protection for our soldiers, whilst delivering value for money. Galvion (formerly Revision Military) have proven themselves to be a reliable and dependable supply partner to DALO in recent years and we’re confident that this new contract will build on that success and that Galvion will continue to be a good partner for DALO”.

Jonathan Blanshay, CEO at Galvion said: “We’re honoured to sign another contract with the DALO, solidifying our partnership for many years to come.  Galvion has developed a reputation as the leader in NATO next-generation helmet systems, and the awarding of this contract speaks of our commitment to provide bespoke solutions for the modern soldier.  He added: “Our team has created a suite of helmets for the Danish MoD that balances quality, durability and the all-important user-acceptance and we are excited to start delivering these systems to the soldiers who need them”.

As well as the new DALO contract, Galvion enjoys an impressive track record of large-scale global sales for protective head systems and soldier power management systems. Other customers include defence forces from the US, Canada, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, UAE, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and others.

HENSOLDT Delivers Radar for Bundeswehr Counter-UAV System

Spexer 2000 3D proves excellent classification performance of small targets

Ulm, Germany, 28 July 2020 – As part of the German Army’s “qualified air defence” drone defence programme, sensor specialist HENSOLDT is supplying the latest version of its “Spexer 2000 3D” radar to system integrator Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Spexer will be part of the C-UAS system (Counter-Unmanned Aerial System), which is based on Kongsberg’s remote-controlled “Protector” weapon station, both mounted on an armoured GTK “Boxer” vehicle. Initially 10 systems are under contract. Radar deliveries will start at the end of this year to meet the requirements of NATO VJTF (= Very High Readiness Joint Task Force) 2023.

The contract was awarded after a test firing at the Baumholder military training area. The third generation of HENSOLDT’s “Spexer 2000 3D” radar demonstrated outstanding classification performance of small targets in very demanding scenarios. Due to the small radar cross section, high manoeuvrability and high optical reconnaissance performance of these micro-drones, they pose a particular threat to mobile land forces.

The new Spexer radar generation additionally closes the gap in the reconnaissance capability of close-range small targets within ground-based air defence. Parallel to drones, the classic air and ground target catalogue – such as helicopters, combat aircraft, armoured vehicles etc. – can also be detected and classified. These capabilities set new standards in the field of radar-based self-protection.

Of the previous generations of Spexer radar, over 150 systems have already been delivered to customers and are in operational use worldwide.

Federal Ammunition Awarded $13.8 Million Delivery Order from the U.S. Army

Wednesday, July 29th, 2020

ANOKA, Minnesota – July 29, 2020 – Federal Ammunition was recently given a new $13.8 million delivery order based on its contract awarded in 2017 by the U.S. Army. The order is for 5.56 NATO MK311 Frangible Ammunition, which is better known by ordnance code AA40. This military-grade, training ammunition has a 50-grain frangible bullet comprised of a non-toxic, copper and tungsten powder matrix core, and a gilding metal jacket. It disintegrates into small fragments on impact, minimizing over-penetration and ricochet hazards.

“One of the differentiators of AA40 is the use of Federal’s exclusive Catalyst primer. It’s a lead-free technology that provides the most reliable, consistent ignition possible,” said VP of Law Enforcement, Government and International Sales David Leis. “Unlike many other lead-free primer formulations, Catalyst primers have unique properties that allow them to be effectively and safely used in service ammunition. Catalyst primers have been used in hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition delivered to military, law enforcement and commercial customers to-date.”

“We have a long history of providing high quality specialty ammunition to multiple branches of the U.S. military. Their continued trust is of the utmost importance to us, and is something we are certainly most proud of,” said Federal Ammunition President Jason Vanderbrink. “With this, Federal Ammunition continues to demonstrate surety of supply, professional capability, the ability to meet all specifications, and reliable delivery on production expectations of our military contracts.”

AirBoss Defense Group Awarded Contracts Valued at Over $123 Million to Support the PPE Requirements of the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Monday, July 27th, 2020

LANDOVER, MD (July 27, 2020) – AirBoss Defense Group (ADG), which is focused on the design, development and manufacturing of American-made, proven, commercially available personal protective equipment (PPE) that protects front-line workers and defense personnel, announced today that it has been awarded more than $123 million in contracts to supply PPE to U.S. Government agencies.

ADG been awarded a $121 million contract by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) – Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), for 50,000 American-made FlexAir™ Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), 3,000,000 High Efficiency Filters and related accessories, including spare protective hoods, that will be part of the inventory for the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). The FlexAir PAPR is designed to enable medical providers and first responders unencumbered protection over extended periods of time, while providing critical medical care. Deliveries under the contract to HHS are expected to be completed over the next nine months.

ADG further announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has placed a sustainment order of $2.55 million with ADG for 60,000 high efficiency (HE) filters and 20,000 protective hoods to establish a contingency stockpile of equipment for the ongoing fight against COVID-19. This sustainment order supports the continued use by VA medical personnel of the over 10,000 American-made FlexAir PAPR systems that had been delivered to the agency earlier this year. Deliveries to the VA are expected to be completed over six weeks, beginning in mid-August.

Patrick Callahan, CEO of ADG, stated: “These new contracts underscore ADG’s ability to quickly respond to the COVID-19 crisis by focusing the entire company on delivering FlexAir PAPR systems to front-line workers across the United States. These orders to supply the PPE needs of the SNS and the VA will bolster U.S. capabilities to respond to public health hazards and ensure that the United States has a more robust domestic capability to support the federal response to future emergencies.”

“To this end, ADG has increased staffing to support the urgent needs of the U.S. federal government and is manufacturing PAPR systems at facilities in Landover, Maryland; Auburn Hills, Michigan; Scotland Neck, North Carolina; and Charleston, South Carolina,” Mr. Callahan noted.

The FlexAir PAPR system is a compact, lightweight respirator system powered by an onboard battery in a waist-mounted blower, designed and manufactured in the United States.  The flexible design permits the use of two high-efficiency particulate filters that are designed to provide a 99.7% protection level against particulates, aerosols and biohazards, including the COVID-19 virus.

The PAPR order for the SNS follows an earlier Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) order for 100,000 PAPR systems that was placed to respond to the immediate threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. ADG has since successfully delivered over 90% of the initial order and remains on track to complete this original contract on time, by the end of July 2020. Additional future follow-on orders for sustainment filters, hoods and accessories are anticipated. The VA order builds upon ADG’s proven record of dependability as the PAPR system provider of choice for federal agencies.

ADG’s PPE products have been used by various branches of the U.S. government for over 20 years. In addition to the above HHS and VA contracts, ADG has received over $15 million in non-governmental orders for PPE during the current pandemic. ADG’s emergency response equipment and PPE are utilized by the U.S. Department of State, Office of Strategic Medical Preparedness, FEMA and CDC infectious disease treatment centers.

The Company provides protective equipment to emergency first response teams and hospitals in hundreds of U.S. cities, as well as over 30 countries worldwide. ADG successfully responded during the MERS and Ebola outbreaks, by providing critical protective equipment to government and civilian first response customers.  ADG will continue to engage in the response to the COVID-19 outbreak through the rapid delivery of domestically manufactured PPE and patient isolation systems to the first-responder community.
