DroneShield Progresses Collaboration with Thales in Spain

On 11 December 2018, DroneShield Ltd (ASX:DRO) (“DroneShield” or the “Company”), announced it had entered into a Teaming Agreement with Thales Programas De Electronica Y Comunicaciones S.A.U. (“Thales Spain”) (a Spanish subsidiary of Thales S.A.), whereby Thales would utilise and promote DroneShield’s products in its defence and security contract bids in Spain involving counterdrone aspects.

Thales Spain has now made its first purchase of DroneShield detection and mitigation products, with the primary purchase of integrating them into its broader family of defence products to market in Spain and globally to its customers. The payment for the products has been received. Integration process includes Thales’s Squire radar (deployed with numerous militaries globally, including mostly recently the Royal Netherlands Army) and its Gecko Optronics System, paired with DroneShield’s specialist drone-detection systems.

Oleg Vornik, DroneShield’s CEO commented, “We are excited about the continued progression of our partnership with Thales in Spain, and look forward completing the integration and marketing the combined solution to Thales Spain customers globally.”

Finnish Defense Force Adopts RK 62M Rifle

After announcing the project in 2015, the Finnish Defense Force will begin fielding of the upgraded RK 62M rifle in 7.62x39mm in three variants.

M1 variant:

-Magpul stock
-New safety lever
-Optical sight mount
-Adapter for mounting accessories
-New sling

M2 variant:

-Magpul stock
-New safety lever
-Optical sight mount
-New handguard for accessories
-New flash hider that can be used to mount a suppressor or breaching device/rebar cutter
-New sling

M3 variant:

-Same as the M2 but comes with a OD green finish and is equipped with the suppressor and breaching device/rebar cutter

In addition to some Aimpoint optics and Magpul accessories, the flash hider, suppressor and the breaching device/rebar cutter on the M2 and M3 variants are manufactured by Ase Utra.

Shield Sights Announces Custom Options For RMS and RMS-C

For Immediate Release – Dorset, England, U.K. – Shield Sights, the leader in mini red dot sight innovation, is pleased to announce custom options on their RMS and RMSc line of sights. Customers can now order a RMS or RMSc to their exact specifications including color, dot size, and lens material with delivery times under 6 weeks. The RMSw will be added to the customizer shortly.

Colors currently available are Blue, Bordeaux Red, British Racing Green, Olive Green, Bronze, Crimson Orange, Electric Blue, Fiery Red, Gunmetal Blue, Gunmetal Grey, Neon Lime, Pink and Purple. All colors are a Type III Sulfuric Acid Anodizing treatment to the aluminum housing. Customers looking to have multiple matching sights are encouraged to buy their sights at the same time to ensure same lot colors.

Dot sizes currently available are a 4-MOA and 8-MOA with other options such as 1-MOA and 65-MOA ring with 1-MOA dot to be released as market dictates.

Lens options are a glass coated polymer, SiO2 Quartz coating which give customers the perfect balance of shatter resistance while providing an increased resistance to scratching found in typical glass lenses. The glass coated polymer lens ads no magnification or distortion to light that can be found in other options on the market. An all-glass lens will be available by the end of Q3 giving users maximum resistance to scratching. The glass lens is in the final stages of testing.

C2R-Fast Virtus Mods

C2R-FAST is a UK-based manufacturer of tactical equipment. Virtus is the British issue armor and load carriage system. C2R-FAST is regularly asked to make modifications to VIRTUS systems. They built up this version as a proof of concept.

Over the course of 2 days, they set the target to produce a deployable system that they would be happy to put their badge onto. The stipulation they set for themselves is that it should have the same basic functionality as VIRTUS, in terms of PALS area and lines, ability to integrate a collar, abdominal panel, single point cutaway, and be completely compatible with a suite of VIRTUS soft and hard armour.

Over the first day, they set about researching and cataloguing what was being said about Virtus by users (good and otherwise).

As always there are compromises in the process, so little details like keeping the cutaway handle in the same place, or the number of vertical PALS webbing on the front had to be maintained as part of being true to the challenge.

Day 2 was all about the build.

By the end of day 2 they had a working system with a number of functionality improvements that tie into C2R heritage; like a good size admin pocket on the front, hydration pocket built into the rear, cable routing over the shoulders and dual purpose radio/magazine pockets in the flanks.

There’s a lot more other things that they’ve added, alongside a 20% weight saving.

SPARTANAT: CONCAMO and HK G95K in the field

Every camouflage pattern is only just as good as its application. CONCAMO is new, was presented during IWA 2018 and is going its way ever since: this time straight to Heckler & Koch. During a joint photoshoot with the German weapons manufacturer on their own testing grounds, not only the best gear in CONCAMO was being used. It also featured two special main characters: G27 and G95 (pictured below), as well as some other newcomers…

CONCAMO has already come so far to be “operational”. Both men are fully equipped. And in the course of this article we will reveal step by step what you can see on the pictures. For starters the new G95 for the German Special Forces. The HK416A7 is going to be adopted by the KSK as well as the frogmen.

The bigger brother is the G27, which is already in use by the Bundeswehr. Using the nomenclature of Heckler & Koch, it is a HK417. This weapon is not only available as DMR, but also as equipment for the Special Forces with a higher calibre.

What we also see with this wonderful new pictures is, how CONCAMO blends into the natural environment. The camouflage pattern feels right at home in the forest with all its different facets. The G27 is equipped with the Elcan Specter DR for calibre 7,62.

At the border of the forest both men are nearly invisible as well – without any additional means of camouflage. If you want to know more about the background of CONCAMO: here is our Interview with Matthias Bürgin, who developed the pattern.

This camouflage makes also use of the underground in the freshly cut forest. Even if both men are standing, they are hard to recognize at first glance. CONCAMO works how camouflage is supposed to: it blurs the outlines.

Not everyone wants to show their faces, we understand that… Camouflage materials for advanced users are being provided by NONVIDE – we looked at their first products during IWA 2019. The mask is made of a very thin material, which does not obstruct breathing. The camouflage effect however, is obvious.

There is no soldier without a backpack. The one on the users back is the Modular 30 pack by Tasmanian Tiger – we discovered the very first piece as a unicorn during Shot Show 2019 in Las Vegas. The backpack is being reviewed at our site. The CONCAMO version will be available from June 2019 – here we can show you some more pictures, exclusively for you.

In fact, not after a shootout, but after a shooting: men without the mask. Matthias Bürgin (left) is the man behind CONCAMO. With him: Ripperkon, the well-known German blogger on gear, climber and photographer. Sneak Peek – Särmä TST L4 Combat Trouser from Varusteleka Oy

Varusteleka has had the Särmä TST L4 Combat Trouser in development for three years now, but now they’re finally Finnished.

Originally, the idea was to produce a homegrown version of a standard combat pant, but turned out quite different in the end. The biggest thing that changed over the years was the fact that they are making these from a new mechanical stretch fabric.

The new fabric is a mechanical stretch ripstop (made from a 60/40 cotton/polyester blend using spiral polyester fibers which provide the stretch). This has eliminated the need for separate stretch fabric details, like the new Crye G4s. The camouflage print is done according to Finnish military NIR specifications.

They feature reinforced – double fabric reinforced seat, diamond gusset crotch, 500D reinforced knees, cuffs, and insteps. With all these hard wear areas reinforced these will last hard, extended use.

One little “special” thing is the cargo pockets flaps which can be closed with hook-and-loop (fast and noisy), a button (slow and silent) or both (superior security, slow and noisy) depending on user preference.

Knee pad inserts can be added, but the design works equally well without any inserts due to the standard enclosed design of the knee reinforcements. The enclosed design mitigates snagging issues and prevents snow and mud from clogging the seams where an internal-external hybrid knee pad (such as Crye) protrudes through the knee fabric.

Varusteleka – Särmä Cargo Trousers

I really love the stuff that Varusteleka is doing. They’ve recently introduced an M81 woodland camouflage version of their Särmä Cargo Trousers. However, these are made from 65/35 PolyCotton and not the 50/50 NYCO many are used to. The price is great and they feature reinforced knees, a button fly and button take-up tabs at the waist as well as plenty of pockets.

Here’s a photo of the trousers in Khaki to give you a better look at the pocket layout.

• Large, bellowed cargo pockets with velcro closure. The front of the flap is sewn on the leg to prevent it from getting dog-eared. However as a nice bonus these do not stand out much when empty.

• Standard slash pockets. These are pretty much like in many jeans, slightly more on the front side.

• A “smart phone pocket” on the front.

• Back pockets with velcro closure.

Available in M81 Woodland, Black, Khaki and Olive Green in Small – 2 XLarge, Regular and Long.
