Marine Corps Releases Solicitation For New Lightweight Hard Armor Plate

November 30th, 2018

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. —

The Marine Corps has released a request for proposal for a lightweight hard armor plate to lighten the load for Marines and allow commanders to adapt to the environment, mission and level of threat on the battlefield.

In August, Marine Corps Systems Command assessed industry’s capability to make a plate that would supplement the Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert, or ESAPI plates, and provide sufficient protection for the majority of combat environments. MCSC’s Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment held Industry Days Oct. 17-18, and met with 12 companies to receive feedback on the draft solicitation documents.

Now MCSC is seeking proposals from industry for procurement of a maximum of 680,706 and a minimum of 60,000 lightweight plates. The lighter plates will give commanders more options to tailor Marines’ ballistic protection to the environment, mission and threat.

“These new plates will be fielded in addition to the existing ESAPI plates,” said Nick Pierce, Individual Armor Team lead in MCSC’s PM ICE. “We expect the plates to be at least 38% lighter than the ESAPI which will significantly increase the mobility of Marines on the battlefield.”

All proposals are due March 2019, and a contract is expected to be awarded in July 2019. Priorities have not yet been set, but initial fielding would likely go to combat units and could take place as early as fiscal year 2020.

“This along with other recent initiatives such as the Plate Carrier Gen III are part of a holistic effort to modernize the personal protective equipment set to give Marines better, lighter, more effective gear,” said Pierce.

Adams Arms’ #MagsForToms BuyBack Movement

November 29th, 2018

Last week, Toms shoes founder, Blake Mycoskie, publicly stated that Toms would donate $5 million to various anti-gun organizations under the guise of “universal background checks to end gun violence.” The reality of the situation is that the concept of a “universal background check” does nothing to stop criminals from getting ahold of firearms, as it only affects the law abiding.

To combat this and take a stand for all Pro-Second Amendment citizens, Adams Arms launched a campaign to send a message that gun owners will not sit by idle and allow the continued degradation of the Rights of the American People. Jens Krogh, the VP of Sales and Marketing for Adams Arms, said the company believes in more freedom for Americans… not less.

The original buyback campaign was to send a free 30rd magazine to anyone (10rd magazines to those in restricted states) who sent a pair of new or used Toms shoes (postmarked) before January 1st, 2019 and burn the Toms via Instagram live, but Adams Arms had a slight change of plans.

“Originally we were going to burn the shoes, but decided that’s no way to treat something that could be used again by homeless veterans,” VP of Sales & Marketing, Jens Krogh, said.

“But then we thought to ourselves… we should at least make the shoes less hippie.  So we’re going to alter them with a pro Second Amendment message and THEN donate them to several worthy causes for veterans and impoverished people living in oppressive countries where they do not have the freedoms we cherish.”

Amend2 Magazines, a high-quality magazine and accessory company based in Idaho, loved the idea so much that they partnered with Adams Arms to support the cause and donated the first batch of #MagsForToms. For every pair of Toms Shoes sent in, one Amend2 30-round (or 10-round) magazine will be sent to your door!

Here’s how it works.  Send Adams Arms your shoes at:

Adams Arms
Mags for TOMS
1551 Gunn Highway
Odessa FL 33556

You must include a note with your shipping address and email address. It must be legal to ship a 30 round mag to your state, or if you live in a restricted state, Adams Arms will send you a 10 round magazine.

Before you send them… post a picture with #shoeburn #magsfortoms and #shallnotbeinfringed to spread the word.

It’s worth pointing out that the organizations in line to get money from Toms are Black & Brown Gun Violence Prevention Consortium, Everytown for Gun Safety, Faith in Action, Giffords, Livefree, March for Our Lives and Moms Demand Action.

SIG SAUER Introduces SPEC1 Premium Firearm Care System

November 29th, 2018

Newington, N.H. (November 29, 2018) – SIG SAUER is pleased to introduce SPEC1, a premium firearm care system, specially formulated for SIG SAUER by SLIP2000. SPEC1 is a non-toxic, non-hazardous, pure synthetic based lubricant with no Teflon™, silicones, or petroleum distillates.

“This partnership between SIG SAUER and SLIP2000 that has resulted in SPEC1 is a win for our consumers. For years SLIP2000 has been the lubricant of choice amongst our SIG SAUER Academy instructors and military units in the U.S. and around the world, because of the quality and performance of the product,” began Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “It’s important to us that our consumers have easy access to the same products used by our instructors, and can have complete confidence in the lubricants and cleaners they are using on their firearms because it has earned the SIG SAUER name. The introduction of SPEC1 accomplishes all of these objectives to the benefit of our end user.”

The complete SPEC1 Premium Firearm Care System includes: synthetic gun lubricant, light gun grease, bore solvent, and gun degreaser. SPEC1 is formulated to reduce heat and wear, and to keep firearms running smoother and lasting longer. SPEC1 will not attract dust, dirt and sand, or feel sticky and tacky like most petroleum-based products on the market today. This synthetic lubricant will not dry up, freeze in cold temperatures, or allow carbon, copper, and plastic wad fouling to stick in the barrels or to gun parts. This non-toxic, non-hazardous formula is completely safe for the end user during application, cleaning, and firing.

“SLIP2000 is honored to be working with SIG SAUER, one of the world’s best firearms companies, to introduce SPEC1. We are also extremely proud that our lubricants earned the favor of the elite SIG SAUER Academy instructors through rigorous use and testing,” began Greg Conner, President, SLIP 2000 / SPS Marketing. “This partnership means that SPEC1 lubricant is now the official lubricant of the SIG SAUER Academy, and that all SIG SAUER firearms will be manufactured with the SPEC1 lubricant, and a product sample will ship with every SIG SAUER firearm. To earn the endorsement of SIG SAUER, and know they want to put their name on our lubricants and cleaners, is very exciting for our brand.”

The SPEC1 Premium Firearm Care System is available at your authorized SIG SAUER dealer, at sigsauer.com, and the SIG SAUER Academy Pro Shop, 233 Exeter Road, Exeter, New Hampshire.

Help the NC Army National Guard’s 1-130th Attack Recon Bn Get New T-Shirts by Buying One for Yourself

November 29th, 2018

Military support artist Travis Getz of Squadron Store was tapped to create the emblems for both Task Force Panther – currently fighting in Afghanistan – and the NC Army National Guard’s 1-130th Attack Recon Battalion, an AH-64 unit that is part of TF Panther.  The Panthers requested shirts but are having trouble meeting a minimum order quantity for their black PT shirt, which is printed on a high quality blended material shirt with moisture wicking properties.  You can help the unit get their morale-boosting shirts by ordering one for yourself.  Sizes go from Youth XS to Adult 5XL and start at $13 (plus tax/shipping).  Orders must be placed by midnight tomorrow (Friday, November 30, 2018).

I spoke with Travis about this endeavor and he had this to add.

Task Force Panther’s CO (currently in Afghanistan) asked me to do their TF emblem.  That went well and I produced it on shirts, coins, stickers, etc.  They ordered in  bulk, it was great.

The Panthers, our local NC AH-64 Apache unit, asked me to work up branding for their unit.  The design was approved by the CO, they put my Panther head design on their engine cowlings, ordered stickers in bulk, it’s awesome!!!

They wanted shirts.  The same type/quality I’d produced for Task Force Panther.  But they asked if I could take the orders individually instead of them having to collect money/arrange a bulk order on their side.   The Task Force is embroiled in the recent flair up in attacks in Afghanistan and so after talking to the family, I decided the best thing to do was to offer the shirts for direct order through my Etsy site.  This is a shift for me because usually I only do bulk orders to units, but it didn’t seem right to have someone ‘off mission’ in order to wrangle the complexities of a shirt order.

One of the shirts, a black PT shirt, only has 22 orders, which is far below minimum order quantity.

Do you think you could consider getting the word out to your readers that – if they want – they can purchase a cool shirt for themselves and help make the Panthers Soldiers and their families/friends getting their shirts a reality?

IMPORTANT:  ordering closes Midnight this Friday (tomorrow) November, 30, 2018!

Attention US Military Retirees – Your Current Dental Program Is Going Away – Sign Up For The New One, Plus Vision Insurance

November 29th, 2018

If you’re a military retiree like me, you’ve been using the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program through Delta Dental, but that’s going away at the end of this year.

Instead, we’re eligible to enroll in the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). In addition to dental insurance, we can also get vision coverage which is a welcome addition for me as I started wearing glasses a few years ago.

New coverage will begin 1 January, 2019, but you will not be automatically enrolled in a FEDVIP plan for 2019. It is imperative you enroll during the Federal Benefits Open Season, which is November 12–December 10, 2018.

After consulting with my dentist regarding which plans he accepts, I took the plunge the other day. I didn’t need any existing passwords for MyPay or DEERS. The website was easy to use and within 15 minutes I had enrolled in both dental vision plans for myself and my dependents, and that time included comparing available plans.

You can’t ignore this. Once again, if you don’t enroll, you’ll lose your coverage.

Visit www.tricare.benefeds.com for more information.
