ORWM 18 – The Tinkle Belle

February 6th, 2018

I almost walked right past The Tinker Belle booth at the recent Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver. But then, out of the corner of my eye, I realized what was going on.

92ECA465-95DD-45B6-9624-3F395E6D6BA2

As more and more women enjoy the outdoors, and join the military, they have to come to grips with the challenges of relieving themselves.

The Tinkle Belle is anatomically shaped to match a lady’s parts in order to prevent leakage, and long enough that she won’t pee on her shoes. However, it’s pliable shape folds into a discrete carrying case. Finally, it’s antimicrobial to avoid bad odor.

Agility Technologies Launches Revolutionary Wireless Live Streaming 360° Technical Rescue Search Camera

February 5th, 2018

img_6385.jpg

Agility Technologies Corporation (ATC) proudly announces FirstLook360 (FL360), the first wireless live streaming 360° technical rescue search camera for the Emergency Services market. FL360 captures seamless high definition live streaming 360° video with wired and wireless connectivity in a ruggedized IP68 housing. FirstLook360 is software/mobile powered containing no moving parts doing away with mechanical motors, gears, pulleys and/or belts used to articulate most of today’s search/tactical cameras. We designed the camera to increase battery life, decrease search times, and allow a multipurpose tool that can be used in various technical rescue, tactical and industrial applications including structural collapse, trench, high-angle, vehicle extrication, tactical surveillance, and industrial inspection.

IMG_6389

The entire FL360 camera is incredibly light, weighing just over 1lb with batteries installed. It has been designed with 360° LED illumination (6 x LED’s) and two mounting points, one at the front of the camera head and one at that rear. At the rear, you can attach the camera to the provided 10ft telescoping extension pole or using a painter’s pole adapter attach any length painters pole to extend the camera to view a 2nd floor, 3rd floor, or 4th floor window before entry. In addition, you can install an eye hook to the rear mount to lower the camera into a confined space using rope or from the roof of a building. The front mount allows you to insert a hook to pull away or remove debris blocking the cameras view (ex. false ceiling, walls, etc.). We can do this because of FL360’s wireless capability and portability.

IMG_6390

With FL360’s accompanying Android application, a user can record 360° video, take snapshots, transmit and receive two-way audio via the robust, multi-use camera head. Using the provided tablet, the operator is able to view an entire space by using a finger with swipe gestures or with the app’s virtual joystick feature to control the focus area and map all recorded media using integrated GPS data.

IMG_6391

Key features of the FL360 Application include:

• FirstLook360 spatial orientation algorithm
• Time, date and GPS data, online map overlay
• Low latency live streaming & recording
• 802.11n MIMO dual antennas Wi-Fi 2.4ghz
• Still image capture
• Sharing of videos and snapshots via Wi-Fi or LTE
• Push-To-Talk controllable Two-Way audio
• Onscreen illumination gradient control for on board ultra-bright LED’s
• Onboard Diagnostics and multiple user preference settings
• Purpose Built and Downloadable Viewer
• Wired and Wireless Operation
• Fingertip Control / Pinch to Zoom

Andy Ibbetson, one of the founders of ATC, commented that, “We set out to put Tech back into Technical Rescue.” FL360 combines advances in technology, imaging, connectivity, mobile integration, and mechanical design that will provide emergency professionals with a multi-purpose advanced camera that we believe will open the door to new methods to save time and improve outcomes.

SHOT Show 18 – Yeti Hondo

February 5th, 2018

Displayed at both SHOT Show and Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, the Hondo is a base camp folding chair.

img_5779.jpg

This thing is beefy at 16.5 lbs, but will handle a 3,000 lbs load. If the mesh back and seat, combined with over molded arms remind you of the Aeron chair, that’s because it was designed by Brian Langerak who came to Yeti from Herman Miller.

SHOT Show 18 – Garmont Nemesis

February 5th, 2018

I was pretty excited to see the new Nemesis 4.0 and 6.0 GTX from Garmont.

75CE4C25-7BF2-4599-9DDC-780A685E0D4B

Garmont boots have been very popular with troops because they are so lightweight. Still lightweight, this new style is a serious departure from the T8, with abrasion-resistant nylon uppers reminiscent of a civilian hiker. The Nemesis also features rubber overlays at the toe and heel. They offer a roomy toe box, anatomical tongue (with lace pocket), asymmetric cuff, and heel slide.

MATBOCK Monday || LIFT Ladder

February 5th, 2018

LIFT Ladder is part of a multi-product system, and over the next few weeks, we will look at all of the various products that are found in this revolutionary system. The Combat Carbon Poles are the backbone of the entire system, which allows operators to tailor the kit for different missions in ever-changing battlefields.

27358AF5-D87B-498F-9FC5-16D483A9CF20

The LIFT Ladder was built so operators could scale and bridge obstacles with ease at only 4.975lbs. It comes with a 400lbs load capacity and is built from American made Carbon Fiber. This short video was taken at the MATBOCK HQ, to show the quick assembly of this ladder and how compact the ladder rungs are when the poles are not attached.

Technical Specifications:
Material – Carbon Fiber / Spectra Cord
Total Weight: 4.975 Pounds
Weight without poles: 2.375 Pounds
Dimensions folded up (without poles): 3in x 3in x 12in

SPARTANAT – Andres Industries AG is bringing Diamond Age to Europe

February 5th, 2018

Diamond-Age-759x500

Andres Industries AG, hitherto known for its highly innovative thermal imaging systems (TIMRO-X, TILO-3 see SPARTANAT Review), starts a cooperation with the US company Diamond Age for the development of ballistic protection systems and takes over its European distribution. Diamond Age has been intensively involved in the development of new materials for many years and specializes in the production of high-performance ceramics for armour-plating.

At the IWA and EnforceTac in March, the company will be presenting the BASTION helmet it announced last year. This is characterized by an unequaled bullet-resistance up to the range of rifles (VPAM 7). Although thin special panels are used for this purpose, the total weight of the helmet remains below 1.9kg, i. e. it weighs no more than a normal fragment protection helmet.

Diamond-Age-3

But even without the additional VPAM-7 panels, the helmet achieves the protection class VPAM 3 with a lower weight of only approx. 930g (shell weight). In the lightest combat-ready version, the helmet weighs only 1.15kg. Another special feature is the very low back face deformation of only one centimeter (0.39″) when firing handgun ammunition (NIJ Level IIIa). This extremely low value will become increasingly important in the future, as recent studies show that it is often not enough to stop projectiles. It is equally important that the depression on the helmet caused by the projectile does not lead to a serious skull injury.

Diamind-Age-2

Commenting on the new cooperation with Diamond Age, Andres Industries AG CEO, Björn Andres, said “For over a year we have been working intensively on ballistic protection systems and have built up a successful new business line. Most manufacturers, and we too, have so far been working mainly on new techniques to process existing materials better and better. We have found that we need to work more closely with developers of such materials because we need new and even better materials. With Diamond Age we have found such a partner. Where others stop at boron carbide, Diamond Age is just beginning.”
