Ineos Automotive Expands into Defence Sector with Landmark European Orders

October 6th, 2026

>      Italian Army has placed a substantial order for the INEOS Grenadier

>      Austrian Government has awarded a contract for enhanced protection versions of the Grenadier

>      INEOS Automotive is leading a consortium bidding for a British Ministry of Defence contract for a new Light Mobility Vehicle

>      The Grenadier is already being used by police, border patrols, special forces and emergency rescue services around the world

“In a world where geopolitical tensions are rising, military forces are bolstering their capabilities and resilience, they need the best, modern equipment available. As a robust and highly capable vehicle, this is what the Grenadier was built for – to unremittingly serve armed forces in mission-critical roles.” said Mike Whittington, Chief Commercial Officer at INEOS Automotive

LONDON, 5 October 2026 – The Italian Army and the Austrian Government have each awarded substantial contracts for the supply of INEOS Grenadiers. They represent the first orders from sovereign defence forces – a significant milestone for the brand.

The Grenadier became the vehicle of choice for the Italian Army, making Italy the first NATO country to place a sizable order for its military. ATflow, INEOS Automotive’s regional distributor will commence deliveries from early 2027.

Separately, an Austrian Government tender was won by Valentin Tusch GmbH, a vehicle armouring and conversion specialist, to supply the Austrian Defence and Interior security forces with Grenadiers adapted for enhanced protection. First deliveries and trials will begin by the end of this year.

In both tenders, the Grenadier was deemed the best available platform – versatile body options, multiple wheelbases, fewer parts for straightforward maintenance and strong solid axles capable of carrying massive weight across hostile terrain over prolonged periods.

INEOS Automotive is in advanced procurement discussions with other European and NATO armed forces, including the Team Grenadier consortium, which has been selected to move forward to the trials stage of the British Ministry of Defence’s Light Mobility Vehicle programme.

“In a world where geopolitical tensions are rising, military forces are bolstering their capabilities and resilience, they need the best, modern equipment available. As a robust and highly capable vehicle, this is what the Grenadier was built for – to unremittingly serve armed forces in mission-critical roles.” said Mike Whittington, Chief Commercial Officer at INEOS Automotive.

“Our most recent military agreements signal a huge vote of confidence in Grenadier as a benchmark already, as talks with other nations’ defence procurement teams continue.”

The Grenadier is already being used by police, border patrols, special forces and emergency rescue services around the world. This includes elite counterterrorism and tactical intervention units in Germany, France and Spain. Nearly every country on the eastern border of Europe has chosen the Grenadier for their security and border forces, including Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Serbia and Slovakia.

Army Codifies Decades of Space Expertise, Welcomes Over 600 Soldiers to New Space Operations Branch

October 6th, 2026

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — More than 600 Soldiers reclassified to the new 40D Tactical Space Operations Specialist MOS, Oct. 1, 2026.

These Soldiers join the new Army Space Operations branch and become the newest warfighters in the space domain.

“We had nearly 3,000 Soldiers apply, and selected over 600 of the most capable, professional Soldiers in the Army,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Rickey Jackson, command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. “We drew talent from Military Intelligence, Air Defense Artillery and the Signal Corps, but the 40D MOS is open for anyone to apply. Ultimately, we are looking for Soldiers who master their current jobs and consistently stand apart from their peers.”

While the 40D enlisted and 40A officer branch designations are new, the Army’s legacy in space is not. On Oct. 1, 1984, the five-person Army Staff Field Element was established to to formulate policy and monitor space-related education. This transitioned Army space from a technology development endeavor to creating doctrine and executing operations. 40A and 40D Soldiers represent the evolution, rather than the advent, of Army space operations.

Previously, the Army transferred Soldiers from other MOSs to temporarily fill Army space operations assignments– only to lose their expertise and institutional knowledge when they returned to their home branch. Army space operations demand trained and ready Soldiers who can advise maneuver commanders operating in and through contested space environments to project power on and from the land. The 40D MOS creates a permanent supply of enlisted space Soldiers to fulfill the requirements of the Army and the joint force.

“The Army is the largest user of space capabilities in the joint force, and space integration is absolutely critical to multidomain operations at every echelon,” said Lt. Gen. John L. Rafferty, commanding general of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. “Establishing the Space Operations Branch is an important step in the Army’s continuous transformation. It provides the Army with the professional structure to deliver space-based effects directly to our Soldiers and units at the tactical edge enabling commanders to fight and win in a contested, multidomain environment.”

To meet the joint force’s growing demand, 40D Soldiers undergo a rigorous training regimen at the Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“Our space operations Soldiers bring unmatched value to the Army and joint force because of the education and training they receive to execute space integration and interdiction missions- specifically counter-SATCOM, stratospheric warfare, navigation warfare and counter sensing,” said Col. Felix Torres, commandant of the Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence “The education and training we provide is not provided anywhere else.”

Ultimately, the Space Operations Branch codifies what Army space Soldiers have provided for decades, while evolving formations to rapidly meet the demands of the Army and the joint force.

The 40A and 40D Soldiers fill critical Army Space operations assignments at echelon in units across the Army. For example, Soldiers in the 1st Space Brigade incorporate critical space-based capabilities such as theater missile warning, GPS and long-haul satellite communications into warfighter planning efforts, advising maneuver commanders to fight and win in and through a contested and degraded space operating environment.

“The 1st Space Brigade is the Army’s only purely space-focused organization that does space operations and interdiction at the brigade level,” said Col. Michael Dyer, commander of the 1st Space Brigade.

“Our value proposition to the Army and joint force has grown exponentially, and that’s only going to increase as we continue to face adversaries with space capabilities.”

Smart Shooter Awarded JIATF-401 Single-Award IDIQ Contract for SMASH Counter-Drone Systems with a Ceiling of Up to $150 Million

October 5th, 2026

Smart Shooter Awarded JIATF-401 Single-Award IDIQ Contract for SMASH Counter-Drone Systems with a Ceiling of Up to $150 Million

The 36-month contract establishes a framework for future orders to support U.S. force protection, base defense, and counter-UAS requirements under the Domestic Shield Program

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 30, 2026 — Smart Shooter, a designer, developer, and manufacturer of innovative fire control systems, today announced that it has been awarded a 36-month, single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Department of War’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401), with a maximum ordering ceiling of up to $150 million. Under the agreement, Smart Shooter is the sole supplier of the SMASH fire control systems, training, and related services covered by the contract. The U.S. Department of War announced the award on September 29.

JIATF-401 coordinates counter-UAS efforts across the U.S. military and federal agencies, working with government and industry partners to address evolving drone threats.

The contract supports JIATF-401’s Domestic Shield Program and associated global operational missions, addressing force protection, base defense, and counter-UAS requirements in the United States and overseas. The contract’s scope includes hardware, software and updates, training, and support services. The quantity, scope, and timing of future deliveries will be determined through individual delivery orders.

Combining artificial intelligence, computer vision, and advanced target-tracking algorithms, Smart Shooter’s lightweight, rifle-mounted SMASH fire control systems track the target, calculate the firing solution, and synchronize shot release when the weapon is precisely aligned. This brings precise kinetic counter-drone capability to the individual soldier through the standard service weapon, while preserving its normal use against ground targets. The operator retains the decision to engage, and the system can connect with external sensors and battle management systems.

The agreement follows Smart Shooter’s earlier contract with JIATF-401, announced in March 2026, and a series of new and follow-on awards Smart Shooter secured over the past year to support the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Thousands of SMASH systems are already deployed across U.S. military services.

“Domestic Shield is about giving defenders the tools to stop small, fast-moving drones before they can harm forces, bases, and critical assets,” said Michal Mor, CEO and Co-Founder of Smart Shooter. “This award, and the framework it provides for future orders of up to $150 million, marks a significant milestone in the expansion of our activity in the U.S. defense market.”

“JIATF-401 is continuously working with industry partners to provide the counter-UAS capabilities needed to protect warfighters and installations,” said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, director of JIATF-401. “Our approach allows us to identify the right capabilities for specific operational requirements and rapidly deliver those capabilities to the warfighter.”

Smart Shooter’s SMASH family of fire control systems is deployed by defense and security forces in the United States, Israel, the UK, Germany, and other NATO and allied nations. The company has offices in Israel, the United States, Europe, and Australia. For further information, visit www.smart-shooter.com

GA-ASI Demonstrates Disaster Relief Comms System With SoftBank Corp

Japanese Supplier Working With GA-ASI on Communications Payload for MQ-9B

SAN DIEGO – 1 October 2026 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has completed a successful flight test using its MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) featuring a new communications payload developed by SoftBank Corp., a major Japanese telecommunications and technology operator. The Disaster Relief Unit (DRU) communications pod can be used for disaster relief and recovery communications in areas where cellular service is not available. The pod was integrated onto an MQ-9B and flown by GA-ASI on July 27.

DRU lets an MQ-9B serve as a mobile network relay tower in the sky. The aircraft can establish connectivity and communications in an area where cellular towers have been damaged – as, for example, by a flood or another natural disaster.

“This is an exciting achievement for GA-ASI and SoftBank,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “It’s been a great experience working with SoftBank, and we believe this capability will be of interest to many of our MQ-9B operators for disaster relief and emergency communications applications.”

MQ-9Bs are multi-mission uncrewed aircraft that can operate in all weather conditions. MQ-9Bs are being flown by operators in the United Kingdom and Belgium, as well as the Japan Coast Guard. In addition, MQ-9B has been selected by Canada, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Qatar, Taiwan and India.

Trijicon Introduces Next-Generation REAP-IR-50 Thermal Riflescope

October 5th, 2026

WIXOM, MI. – Trijicon®, a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative aiming solutions, announces the new REAP-IR®-50 thermal riflescope series, combining high-resolution thermal imaging, advanced media capabilities, intuitive user-configurable controls, wireless connectivity, and an available integrated laser rangefinder in an all-new, field-ready thermal platform.

American to the core, the REAP-IR-50 is powered by an all-new, proprietary Trijicon Thermal Core, featuring a 1024×768 high-resolution thermal sensor paired with a 1280×1024 SXGA full-color OLED display. The combination delivers exceptional thermal definition and image clarity to help users detect, recognize, and identify targets in demanding conditions. A manual-focus 50mm F1.0 objective lens, multiple thermal palettes, and advanced image-processing features allow users to optimize the image for changing terrain and environmental conditions.

The REAP-IR-50 also makes it easy to capture and share what happens in the field. Users can record video and still images directly through the optic, while recoil-activated recording helps automatically capture the shot without requiring the user to manually start recording. With 64GB of internal memory, there is plenty of room to store photos and video for later review and sharing.

Integrated Wi-Fi connectivity works with the Trijicon App, allowing users to wirelessly access and download photos and videos directly to a smartphone or tablet. The app’s Live View feature also allows the image from the REAP-IR-50 to be streamed in real time to a connected mobile device – giving another user the ability to see what is being viewed through the optic.

For users who want integrated ranging capability, the REAP-IR®-50LRF features a built-in 905nm laser rangefinder capable of quickly determining target distance. The onboard ballistic calculator then uses the selected shooter profile to generate an on-screen corrected hold reference, combining ranging and ballistic information directly within the optic. Five different profiles allow the user to save multiple profiles for different rifles or ammunition types.

Trijicon also put considerable attention into how the REAP-IR-50 is operated in the field. A top-mounted, ambidextrous five-button keypad features large tactile controls that are easy to locate in darkness, while wearing gloves, or under stress. Programmable Quick Keys give users one-touch access to frequently used functions without navigating through multiple menus, allowing the interface to be customized around individual preferences and applications.

The REAP-IR-50 series also includes eight selectable thermal palettes (including black hot, white hot, edge detect, color, and a hybrid max heat), multiple reticle choices, up to 1-8x digital zoom, GPS capability, video streaming, and USB-C connectivity. Designed for hard use in the field, the REAP-IR-50 is tested to MIL-STD-810H standards for shock, vibration, temperature extremes, and harsh environmental conditions. It is designed, engineered, machined, and assembled in the United States.
