Converting the M4 to the M4A1 Configuration

Saturday, December 12th, 2015

In this video from 2014, technicians from Anniston Army Depot, Alabama and TACOM are performing the Modification Work Order upgrades from M4 to the M4A1 configuration on site at Ft Riley. The M4s will receive a new, heavier barrel, ambidextrous safety and a conversion from 3-round burst to full-auto fire. They can be seen moving along at a pretty good pace, upgrading about 300 Carbines per day. The extent of the MWO can be seen in the graphic above.

A Tip Of The Hat To Two Dogs

Friday, December 11th, 2015

Today, one of my mentors retires after 51 years of Federal Service (USAF Officer and Civil Service). Joseph “Two Dogs” E Murphy, Jr, Lt Col, USAF (Ret) was my first boss after commissioning in the Air Force. Joe goes way back in AFSOC Intel to the 23rd Air Force days. After retiring, they brought him back as a civilian and Joe created the Special Tactics Intelligence community. I was lucky enough to be selected as one of the first officers to work for him in that capacity at the 720th STG. Not only that, he’s been a great friend and mentor to me these past 18 years.

I want to wish Joe, his wife Sally, children and grandchildren well on this occasion. Two Dogs, I hope you enjoy that retirement. You’ve more than earned it.

Polartec To Move Massachusetts Manufacturing To Tennessee

Friday, December 11th, 2015

According to a report in the Eagle Tribune, Lawerence Mass Mayor Daniel Rivera claims that Polartec, a leading supplier of US made fabrics for the US military, plans to move 200 manufacturing jobs to Tennessee over the next 18 months.

Last September, Polartec purchased Polartec United Knitting, L.P., located in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mayor Rivera says most of the jobs would move to this facility from Lawrence, long a bastion of the American Textile industry.  Reportedly, the Polartec headquarters will remain in Lawrence.

Fortunately, these jobs aren’t going away completely and Polartec will continue to mill fabric.  I’d just like to see some more use of Neoshell.
