W L Gore & Associates, Inc has announced that its most advanced comfort technology is now available in tactical military and law enforcement footwear. Available in desert tan and black from the Belleville Boot Company, Propper International, Reebok, and Shoe Technology Company (STC), GORE-TEX Extended Comfort Footwear provides protection outside in challenging conditions and comfort inside the station, vehicle, or garrison. GORE-TEX Extended Comfort Footwear enables military and law enforcement professionals to have a single pair of boots for the widest range of climates. Like all GORE-TEX products, this new technology delivers durable protection from exposure to rain and inclement weather while allowing moisture vapor to escape from the boot, which helps keep feet dry and more comfortable. The unique single-wall construction of GORE-TEX Extended Comfort Footwear eliminates the need for extra lining, making the footwear a more lightweight alternative.

Nat Haskell is the New Executive Director of Smith Elite

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

I’ve known Nat Haskell for several years now during his time with Ops-Core. He’s a stellar individual with a no nonsense approach that I find refreshing in this business. I’m looking forward to seeing him at work with Smith Elite. Congratulations to all.

Smith Optics is excited to announce the addition of Nat Haskell as the Executive Director of Smith Elite. Nat came to Smith from Ops-Core where he was highly successful as the Director of Business Development. The Ops-Core management team and Nat had an amicable split and this move hopes to fortify the already strong relationship between the two head borne protection companies. Smith feels that this strengthened relationship will help drive innovative eyewear products with increased protection and improved integration with not only the premier helmet platform, the FAST ballistic helmet, but all helmet systems.

“I am excited to be part of the Smith Elite team. We have a very strong group of dedicated professionals who share my passion for providing customer focused ballistic protection that is purpose built for our war fighters and law enforcement professionals.” – Nat Haskell Executive Director of Smith Elite.

“I feel that Nat brings a well balanced body of experience from leading the rapid growth of an exciting product line and brand in Ops-Core, as well as a strong educational background, which is capped by an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Babson College. This added to his background as an end user with military and government service, including his numerous deployments to combat zones throughout the Middle East, allows him to easily bridge the gap between the users and the Smith development team,“ said Ned Post, President of Smith Optics.

Smith Elite has an exciting year ahead with a lot of opportunities and new products, such as the PIVLOCK V2 Tactical, the Boogie Sport, the Prospect Tactical, and a full line of Asian fit eyewear. Smith is confident that Nat will be able to drive our continually expanding product line successfully into the market. We feel that under Nat’s leadership Smith Elite is poised to continue its tradition of providing the highest quality ballistic eyewear and proving our superiority through our proprietary lens serialization program.

New for SHOT Show – SOTech Range System

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

Range-Bag-Flyer

Considering every step from the gun safe to the firing line, SOTech designed a modular range bag system for handgun shooters. Multiple pull out pistol cases Velcro against the wall in most gun safes. These padded pistol cases accept most large frame handguns. On the outer face is a pouch with slots for 3-5 magazines and a box of pistol rounds. On the flap there is ample Velcro for a nametape identifying the pistol inside, and the name of the owner for identification on the range. The shooter chooses his pistols and drops them into the range pack. The pack also has pockets for 4 boxes of pistol ammunition, paper targets, markers, a staple gun, first aid kit, eye protection and ear protection. Because of the padded sling strap, the bag can rotate around for quick access to range ID and log books, and for gun checking at the range office. On the firing line, the pack rests on its side on the shooting bench behind the firing points or at the firing point. The pistol case modules can be removed and carried to the line with eyes and ears hanging from hang straps on the lockable pistol cases. After shooting, the pistol cases return to the pack and the cleaning case can be opened exposing a fold-out light colored rimmed cleaning tray with slots for brushes, rods, patches and oil bottles. The individual pistol cases and range bag lock for transport home, and the pistol cases extract for insertion back into the safe. The pack also has a concealed back slot for carry of a hydration reservoir or a defensive weapon. The main pack can also be emptied and used as a briefcase or a Police patrolman’s warbag. Check out the system at SHOT at SOTech booth #20113. Bag will be available March 2013 at SOTechTactical.com.

SureFire announced yesterday on their Facebook page that the iconic Paul Kim is leaving the firm after 19 years of service. Many do not know that PK as he is known was the design force behind the now defunct Icon lights. It was a great spin-off brand but unfortunately never caught an audience.

After 19 years of service with SureFire and countless contributions, Paul Kim has decided to leave SureFire to pursue other opportunities. Paul Kim has been the Vice President of Engineering since the earliest days of the company. He holds over 40 patents dating back to the 1980s, and many of his innovations are integrated into just about every modern flashlight. He was a pioneer in the industry, and has created some of the best-engineered and most revered illumination products ever made. Everyone at SureFire thanks Paul for his many years of service, and we wish him only the best in his latest pursuits.

StraightJacket Barrel System from Teludyne Tech Ind

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

The StraightJacket Barrel System from Teludyne Tech Ind is a thermal management technology that conducts heat away from the barrel and increases barrel rigidity resulting in increased accuracy and service life.

Comparative analysis of the Teludyne URG1 placed side by side to a match grade M4 resulted in cold bore accuracy improving by 75% right out of the box, and after firing 120 rounds in 2 minutes, accuracy improved by 671%. Subsequently, at 600 meters, the URG1 grouped at 7.07 inches versus the match grade M4s 54 inches tested 15 minutes after 220 rounds of rapid fire. A thorough validation of TTI’s accuracy claims has been conducted, documented and published by both TTI and by H.P. White Laboratory, Inc.

In addition to incorporating this technology into a wide variety of weapons applications including for the US Olympic Biathlon team, Teludyne has released the Sine Pari Upper Receiver Group in both carbine and SBR lengths. Additionally, it integrates their Muzzle Recoil Compensator.
