Not only does Blue Force Gear literally have the coolest mannequin at AUSA but they also have the lightest pouches. Their Helium Whisper technology integrates a laser cut laminate. But that’s just half of the story. The real secret is their Tactical Origami that allows them to lay a 3-dimensional pouch flat for cutting. Once it’s assembled, there are far fewer parts meaning less weight and bulk.
On display was their full suite of Helium Whisper pouches including the GP pouches. Here you can see how low profile a GP pouch fits on a cummerbund side plate pocket. This pouch features ITW’s new Zipline zipper pulls. This model of Zipline can support 50lbs but additional models are coming.
In order to further reduce weight they have developed a new laminate in order to offer a Cordura face.
Finally, this gives you a good comparison of BFG’s Helium Whisper technology compared to the legacy PALS attachment.
BFG is prepared to support agency and unit orders now. The Helium Whisper line will be available for individual purchase beginning in January, 2012.

Modern Day Marine is one of our favorite shows of the year and by no means were we able to cover it all. Check out this coverage from our friends at KitUp!:
Benchmade’s Newest Battle Blade Is Ready for Abuse
TAG’s New M240 Machine Gun Bag
and while the coverage didn’t originate from MDM, the Medford Knife & Tool Hammerspike was also on display
Shatter Glass Easy with Hammerspike
Additionally, Gannett’s Defensenews.com offered The Show Scout
Finally, don’t forget Tactical Fanboy’s singular, titillating look at ballistic undergarments.
BCB Like You’ve Never Seen Them Before
Even between all of us, we didn’t get it all. It was a great show. Look for additional coverage of gear we saw at MDM 2012 here on SSD.

It’s a big show with small surprises. One of the best products out there is the Missing Link. This patent pending device allows you to adapt any PALS equipped pouch for use with a gun belt. You simply loop the MOLLE webbing thru the Missing Link and it Velcroes into place on your belt. This devise literally cuts in half the number of pouches you need to purchase by increasing the versatility of your standard MOLLE pouches. I have a few and love them.

From the great white north comes a new armor carrier. Canadian firm Drop Zone Tactical Ltd has introduced a line of products called the Integrated Combat System. The first product from this line is the Warrior Wrap, a cummerbund style plate carrier that accommodates BALCS or Line of Fire cut soft armor.
Drop Zone put a lot into the development of this product and have related to me that they feel the shoulders are its best feature. In testing, subjects related that shoulder fatigue from the weight of ballistic plates, ammo and water were reduced. Their approach? Simple. Broad, load distributing shoulders with generous spacing for the neck.
Built right into the collar is a D-ring designed specifically for the DropZone Single Point Sling Kit but it will fit others as well.
The drag handle is rated to 600lbs and is crafted from a large loop designed to be gripped by gloved hands. However, the center of the handle is tacked with Velcro to keep it close to the vest when not in use.
Be sure to ask about a discount for military personnel.

Customers have asked and Triple Aught Design has listened. This Friday (23 Sep 2011), they are going to reintroduce the MultiCam colorway to their line. Here we will focus on three of their iconic bag designs, the FAST Pack Litespeed and EDC as well as the Dispatch Bag. However, they are also introducing MultiCam to their line of pouches. Manufactured from 1000D Cordura along with Mil-Spec printed PALS webbing, they add Hypalon reinforcement to select areas to protect the bags from abrasion. Triple Aught Design has put a lot of thought into their bags over the past few years and really refined them based on user feedback coupled with some moments of inspiration from the good idea fairy. For example, every pack includes their signature Flashlight Cave, a hidden pocket within arms reach to have immediate access to keys and other everyday carry items without having to take the bag off.
Here are the packs:
Look for more in-depth coverage of each of these bags here soon and be sure to check for these products this Friday at www.tripleaughtdesign.com.

At NTOA’s annual meeting in Richmond, VA Mayflower Research & Consulting, LLC gave us a sneak peek of a version of their GEN IV UW Chest Rig manufactured from LiteLok, a material created by Glen Raven Technical Fabrics and offered in MultiCam by DURO Industries. Weighing 30% less than traditional 500D nylon, LiteLok offers outstanding abrasion resistance and is often seen in soft armor carriers.
The GEN IV carries 4 ea 5.56mm magazines, 2 pistol magazines, up to 2 small radios (PRC-152/MBITR) and also features 2 GP pockets.
