Off the Grid Concepts – Custom Kydex

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Off the Grid Concepts, another fine purveyor of custom kydex mag pouches and holsters, has a new “dual mounting option” mag pouch that carries one rifle magazine and one pistol magazine. Check them out on Facebook or at their website to see some of their kit or see what they come up with when they come up with it. One of their mottos is, “If you own it we can holster it.” Their website says they make apparel and outdoor gear, but apparently it’s not up yet.

ATS Tactical Suspenders in Jacquard Webbing

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

This is the first sample from ATS Tactical of their suspenders manufactured with Murdock Webbing‘s excellent Jacquard weave webbing in MultiCam. Unlike traditional printed webbing, the pattern is woven into the webbing so it won’t fade. Additionally, buckles give a little more bite into the pattern’s weave. The webbing blends in almost seamlessly with MutiCam fabric as you can see in this photo.

The suspenders themselves are a low profile affair, adjustable for length, designed to fit comfortably under armor and work in conjunction with the ATS War Belt.

Although this is the first product ATS has done in this material they tell us that more is on the way.

Modular Padded Shoulder Harness from HSGI

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

More traditional belt and suspender load carrying options are once again becoming popular. High Speed Gear’s new Modular Padded Shoulder Harness utilizes 6.5mm Neoprene foam which features a gel like feel for comfort that does not slip on the shoulders.

The designs allows you to use either 1″ or 1.5″ webbing to attach to belts or chest rigs. The Drag Handle uses a Vinyl Tube cover to reduce the strap from cutting into the hand. The rear features 5 continuous rows of MOLLE/PALS with the top 3 rows integrate Velcro loop.

Raven VanGuard

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Hill People Gear has been offering the Raven VanGuard for some time now and I am intrigued with the concept. Available for both the Glock and M&P, the VanGuard was originally envisioned by Shay VanVlymen of Mindset Laboratory and manufactured by Raven Concealment Systems. It is designed to protect a pistol’s trigger from accidental squeeze while being stored in non-holster carriers such as day or fanny packs. The VanGuard is tethered so that during the draw it will pull free from the trigger guard. Hill People Gear sells them for use with their Kit Bags and Runner’s Kit Bags, but the VanGuard looks like it would be a good pairing with many carry options.

HSGI’s Taco goes OCONUS with Coalition Troops

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

The various forms of HSGI’s Taco, arguably the most versatile mag pouch on the market, are beginning to spread abroad. A prominent coalition partner just bought a couple thousand or more of them for one of their special operations units and HSGI recently shipped a bunch off to the US Border Patrol to use on duty. Congratulations Gene, and all of HSGI — not for the big sale, but for building something so effective and reliable it is an honest asset to the boys and girls on the ground.

CTOMS MOLLE Drop Extension Panel

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

The MOLLE Drop Extension Panel works with the CTOMS X-Belt/M-Harness System. It’s four PALS columns wide and velcroes into place inside the belt’s pad. While there is plenty of Velcro there to keep it fast, spanning gear across from the belt to the panel locks it completely into place.

As you can see, it’s designed to keep your belt up where it needs to be around your waist, but allows you to put your gear down lower, where you want it. This isn’t a full drop leg panel but rather an extension directly from your belt. To put it in perspective, the Drop Extension Panel lowers the top of a 30 round magazine to the level of the top of the belt.

It’s a cool idea and what makes it even better is that CTOMS is in production of a Duty Belt version, compatible with 2″ standard duty style belts in both 2 and 4 column wide versions.
