SMART SHOOTER Moving Forward on IWTSD Individual Weapon Overmatch Optic (IWOO) Program Using Advanced Fire Control System

[March 24, 2021]: In February 2020, the US Department of Defense’ Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD) selected SMART SHOOTER, a world-class designer, developer, and manufacturer of innovative fire control systems, to develop the solution for its Individual Weapon Overmatch Optic (IWOO) project.
Last November, SMART SHOOTER reached an important milestone in successfully completing the IWOO Critical Design Review. This means the IWOO design has been approved by IWTSD and will now move to prototype production with delivery of the first functional system next Fall.
The IWOO program was initiated by IWTSD to provide tactical operators overmatch capability against long range static and moving targets, both day and night. SMART SHOOTER won the competition and began development using proven technologies from its SMASH line of Fire Control optics and inserting new capabilities such as a variable x1- x8 zoom – all stitched together with combat-proven fire control algorithms to assure the hit.
The IWOO system automatically detects, highlights, and tracks potential targets – including drones – using a see-through display which enhances the user situational awareness. Built-in fire control processing continuously calculates the optimal firing solution to provide the user with clear, discreet guidance, firing only with the best chance of neutralizing the target, delivering first-round hit capabilities time after time.

11th AF Establishes Special Experience Identifier and Wear of “Arctic” Tab for Arctic Leader Qualified Airmen
March 24th, 2021In January, LT Gen David Krumm, the Commanding General of the 11th AF which is responsible for air operations in Alaska signed a memorandum creating the Arctic Leader Qualification program, awarding a Special Experience Identifier (3LA) and award of the Arctic tab for those qualified.
The 11th AF is responsible for 79% of DoD Arctic operations and the program is intended to support the 2019 DoD Arctic Strategy. The baseline training is conducted at Alaskan Command’s Arctic Defense Security Orientation. This three-day course covers Arctic history, Alaska Native history, threats from adversaries and provides an extensive big picture overview. After additional experience, the Arctic Leader SEI and tab may be awarded.
In addition to ADSO, Airmen must complete one of the following:
1 Year on station operating in cold weather environment
Fulfill leadership role in exercise Arctic Edge. Arctic Eagle, Navy ICEX, or similar
Deploy in support of contingency op north of 60deg N parallel

Warrior Protection and Readiness Coalition Honors Members of Congress with 2021 Sentinel Awards for Legislative Leadership

WPRC Chairman Justin Mayer said, “Senator Rounds and Congressman Langevin continue to lead vital efforts to support the domestic industrial base, enabling the rapid production of American-made military and medical PPE during a period of sustained market disruptions. We are grateful for their leadership on behalf of those who serve in the Armed Services, the Department of Homeland Security, and frontline medical personnel. Sen. Rounds and Rep. Langevin are working every day to renew and strengthen American production of critical life-saving equipment and PPE at the best value to the Federal government.”
The Sentinel Award presentation took place during the 2021 WPRC Legislative Summit, conducted virtually due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. WPRC members participated in virtual meetings with key Members of Congress and staff members to advocate for best-in-class, American-made equipment, textiles and uniforms for U.S. service members, frontline medical responders, and the operational agencies within the Department of Homeland Security.
WPRC’s top legislative priority, the Homeland Security Procurement Reform (HOPR) Act, was passed unanimously in the House in the 116th Congress and will be re-introduced in the 117th to help ensure that American tax dollars are spent on high-quality, American-made uniforms, footwear and personal protective equipment (PPE). The WPRC continues to lead legislative advocacy to strengthen the domestic industrial base for manufacturers of PPE, body armor, ballistic helmets, eye protection, hearing protection, footwear, load carriage and the critical input materials required to maintain a complete, healthy domestic supply chain.
