SIG SAUER Delivers Milestone 100,000th M17 / M18 Handgun to U.S. Military

Monday, November 25th, 2019

NEWINGTON, N.H., (November 19, 2019) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce the delivery of the 100,000th M17 and M18 for the Modular Handgun System program to the U.S. Military, ahead of schedule, and surpassing the performance standards and requirements since the official contract award in January 2017.

“In the month of October SIG SAUER exceeded our manufacturing requirements by thirty percent and delivered a record-setting 12,100 handguns to the U.S. Military to achieve this historic milestone for SIG SAUER and the MHS program,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc. “With the strict accuracy and acceptance specifications that the M17 and M18 are continuously exceeding, it’s clear that the success of this program can be directly attributed to the reliability, durability, and accuracy of the handgun, which has resulted in the high demand for both the M17 and M18 from every branch of the U.S. Military.”

The M17 and M18 handguns are a 9mm, striker-fired, P320-based handgun platform, featuring coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slides with black controls and utilize both 17-round and 21-round magazines. The handguns are equipped with SIGLITE front night sights, removable night sight rear plates, and manual safeties. To date SIG SAUER has delivered M17 and M18 handguns to all branches of the U.S. Military and the U.S. Coast Guard.

“From the very beginning the MHS program has been a true partnership between SIG SAUER and the U.S. Army which has resulted in the overwhelming success of the program, and ensuring that the M17 and M18 handguns are entering service, and in the field with our military,” concluded Cohen.

SCUBAPRO Sunday – Drinking Saltwater

Sunday, November 24th, 2019

I know most people will never be on a boat that sinks and be in the situation, whereas they would have to try and survive by drinking saltwater. First, don’t drink saltwater it will kill you. But there might come a time that you are on are out in the field for a long time, and you have to find water, and its either get it from the ocean or possible from a river or swap that has brackish water (half salt/ half fresh). The best method is to have a pump with you that can be used for saltwater. It will be a lot of work pumping saltwater and turning it into fresh is a lot of work for a little reward. There is also a way to get clean water out of saltwater that uses a leaching method that you can fill and forget. HTI uses Osmosis is the natural diffusion of water through a semi-permeable membrane from a solution containing a low concentration of dissolved solids to a solution having a higher level of dissolved solids. When it comes to the best method for you that depends on the situation, I am going to talk about a few different techniques and also suggest a few things you can just buy and keep around.

Getting salt out of seawater requires the following essential components. It doesn’t matter what you do to accomplish this, but they should be as clean as posable.

1. Method of evaporation

2. Something to catch condensation

3. A way to collect the condensation back into a substantial container.

There are a lot of things you can use to accomplish this, and during a real survival situation, knowing the necessary actions will go a long way. You should always carry the right items, so if you find yourself in this situation, it will make it a lot easier. All of this will go a long way and could save your life. You should always have items to purify water on your boat because you never know what will happen. You can have this in your boat, and if you need it, it is there.

Above is a basic Solar still, you can even just put a plastic bag on green vegetation and collect water that way.

This can be accomplished with a poncho also. Beach well. Along the coast, obtain water by digging a beach well. If you are near a beach you can go back on the beach or inland a little bit and dig a beach well, let it fill with water and drain it at least three times before you drink it. It should be boiled or treated.

There was an 18year old kid from Indonesia that survived 49 days on a tiny fishing boat, and he used his clothes to filter the water thru to make it (more) drinkable. He used his cotton shirt and drank the water thru it. Some studies have shown that filtering water through a sari, is a garment that is commonly worn by women in the Indian subcontinent, can significantly increase its potability. In 2003, scientists discovered that filtering water from rivers and ponds in Bangladesh through a folded piece of cotton cloth taken from a sari cut the risk of infection with cholera by half. Interestingly, they noted that old fabric makes for a better filter than new material because the pore size of loose threads is smaller.

In a follow-up study in 2015, researchers found that a filter made of four layers of worn cotton material could filter out more than 99 percent of all cholera bacteria.

One of the biggest things to remember in a survival situation is, do not eat if you don’t have water. If you have water available to you, you should try and filter it as much as possible. But if it comes to, I am going to die if I don’t drink the water. Well, most survival experts say to drink it. (that only counts for freshwater not water with salt in it) When you are rescued, a lot of what you can get from drinking bad water can be treated.

Milipol 19 – NFM Introduces GENTO Duty Belt

Thursday, November 21st, 2019

The new GENTO Duty Belt from Norway’s NFM is designed primarily for LE.

The idea behind GENTO was that Law Enforcement officers generally have to choose between comfort and stability of their load which is born primarily on the duty belt. By introducing polymer into the equation, they could make the belt much thinner and yet retain rigidity.

Additionally, GENTO offers lumbar support. That large module at the back not only increases stability but it houses an adjustment system which allows the wearer to loosen or tighten the belt from the rear.

Here you can see the adjustments on either side of the rear of GENTO.

Additionally, you can configure different rear panels if the need arises.

Additionally, duty gear can be fitted to the belt and stabilized in place with Velcro fittings so they won’t slide around.

SureFire Stiletto and Stiletto Pro – Side by Side

Wednesday, November 20th, 2019

Now that the Stiletto Pro is out, I thought it would be a good idea to show you the two models side-by-side. First off, the PRO model features an anodized aluminum body rather than the polymer body of the Stiletto.

This is a SureFire product so naturally, they pumped up the volume on output. They’ve integrated a new proprietary MaxVision Beam reflector for 1,000 lumens in high-output mode. According to SureFire, this increased output combined with the new reflector results in a 233% increase in candela over the initial model, which equates to an 82% increase in distance performance. The Stiletto Pro also offers the added versatility of a 300-lumen medium output and a 25-lumen low output.

The Stiletto Pro doesn’t just improve the amount of light it throws, there are a few other enhancements as well. For example, the activation button is recessed on the PRO model.

Additionally, you can swap the carry clip for bezel-up or bezel-down carry.

I already love the Stiletto. I’m looking forward to the Stiletto Pro.
