Often, I’m told by service members who read SSD, “yeah, that item is cool, by does it have a National Stock Number?” When I question them about this, I’m told that their supply office won’t buy the item, unless it has an NSN. Although, nothing could be more Cold War (and lazy) than that approach, I’ve been keeping my eye out for gear that has an NSN. For example, here is a chart from Benchmade that has NSNs.
Over a decade ago, Outdoor Research developed the Modular Glove System for USSOCOM. In the ensuing years, there have been upgrades to not only that system but to protective handwear across the board. One of those improvements is the introduction of options. Rather than a one-size-fits-all system, the concept of choices and a menu-based system has become popular. Now, OR has released a new handwear system with more options than ever.
This brochure from OR gives you a good overview of their latest Modular Glove System. The concept is that users will be able to choose which handwear best suits their operational requirememts rather than issuing a large kit to everyone.

This is the LWRCi SMG-45. Naturally, its in .45 but they plan to offer versions in .40 and 9mm as well. It uses UMP magazines. Somewhat reminiscent of an AR, you’ll notice the non-reciprocating charging handle on the left side with ambidextrous bolt catch and safety. The mag catch is located behind the magazine. Interestingly, it uses a delayed piston operating system. The design is topped off with a side folding stock.

For this week’s Friday Focus, we’re taking a look at three new additions to FirstSpear’s line of belt systems: the Base Belt, Tac Belt, and Lanyard V-Ring. These three systems are made with the same high quality materials and finish as all FirstSpear products, and integrate well with each other as well as existing FirstSpear belt systems.
Base Belt
The FS Base Belt is a low volume belt intended for everyday use. Constructed with a high nap Velcro pile exterior and a pliable webbing base, the Base Belt can be used in conjunction with the FS Tac Belt and/or the FS Slimline 6/12 AGB Sleeve. The Base Belt also features a pass-through-back-onto-istelf-buckle.
The FS Tac Belt is designed so that it can be worn with the Base Belt and/or the Slimline AGB 6/12 sleeve. It is less stiff than the AGB and features additional security loops. Additional points on the Tac Belt accommodate the integration of the V-Ring Lanyard.
The Lanyard V-Ring is designed to be integrated to the Tac Belt, or the AGB, for a security attachment point. Overall performance standard and weight bearing maximum is, according to FirstSpear, up to the user to define.
American Elements takes a look at Daniel Defense founder, Marty Daniel. He also shares the story of his family, wife Cindy, and son Connor who helped him get where he is today.
Hoptic USA’s Quiver is a rail-mountable accessory for precision rifles, machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum and Type III hard anodized. The Quiver is designed as an efficient method to carry and access two additional cartridges; it been described by the creator as “…to the Precision Sniper Rifle what the Side Saddle is to the Shotgun…” The most obvious application of the Quiver would be to carry a couple of specialty cartridges along with the user’s standard load, such as intermediate barrier rounds in addition to general purpose ammo.
The Quiver comes standard with a KeyMod mount, although it can be adapted for use with M-LOK, Picatinny, MOLLE, etc.
