“RB1” Limited Edition Aimpoint T-1 Micro 2MOA & LRP Mount

Monday, July 9th, 2012

UNOFFICIALLY referred to as the RB1 Limited Edition Aimpoint T-1 Micro, it features the new 2MOA red dot and is mated to an LRP Mount.

Redback One just received their first batch from Aimpoint Sweden. They are still discussing the availability of this product for commercial sales in the US. I am looking to upgrade my T-1 to the new 2MOA design so I can say that I’d like to have one. Who else is interested?

Forces Focus – Finnish Sotilaspoliisit

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Part of the Finnish Guards Jaeger Regiment, the Sotilaspoliisit is a small Military Police unit.

Reader JP had this to say about the video –

The Regiment has a strong homeland defence focus, and co-operation with LE agencies and civil authorities is close.
In the video you can see a 9month conscript- based MP reserve company training in assault force operations alongside Finnish National Police. During a sustained national crisis this assistance would be a typical mission profile, especially if foreign involvement is clear.
The training scenario here is pretty much an “Urban Shield” equivalent where all necessary elements, including the reserve company have been activated in response to a large scale event. The company is tasked in the briefing to strike a location identified as being used as a crash pad by the bad guys. See what happens…
Equipmentwise a lot of the stuff is Finnish, like the Sisu XA-180 APC, the breach blankets by Verseidag Ballistic Protection, the Valmet RK95 TP rifles etc. On the other hand you can see ACOGs, Aimpoint CS, NICO bangs, Insight Technologies stuff and Dynamic Entry tools put to good use… Not to mention an oldie but goody Partner Saw!

Thanks JP!

Holmatro Rescue Equipment

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Holmatro is well known for their high pressure hydraulic rescue tools. However, they’ve got a couple of options for those of you who need to be able to get into confined spaces or remote areas where a hydraulic cable and generator/compressor are not available.

The self contained options rely on battery packs to produce a great deal of torque for spreading, cutting, pulling, and crushing duties. Depending on the model, they can offer a cutting force of up to 56,920 lbs

Holmatro also offers hand operated rescue tools. Depending on the model, these can spread and cut with a max cutting force of up to 56,920 lbs. They are lightweight and can even be used underwater.

Check the Holmatro line out at Warrior Expo East.

USMC Pack Video

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Slowly but surely, the pack once known as FILBE is making its way to the Fleet. Apparently, MARCORSYSCOM’s Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment office has been able to take long enough away from making accusations against each other to produce this very informative video on what is now called simple the USMC Pack. It’s almost 30 minutes long so you may need to watch it in bites during breaks.

Velocity Systems has just released this new logo on Facebook. They’ve also announced that they are licensing the Helium Whisper technology from Blue Force Gear. We wonder what else they’ve got in store.

Black Diamond Wearable Modular Tactical System Chosen by USAF for Dismounted Close Air Support

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Under a Firm Fixed-Price Contract the US Air Force has chosen the Black Diamond Advanced Technology‘s Modular Tactical System (MTS) as their next-generation US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) Operator Control System (OCS). Used by Special Operations Forces and Joint Terminal Attack Controllers, the Battlefield Air Operations (BAO) OCS is a wearable solution, incorporating a tactical vest with power management and a rugged computing device, designed for dismounted Close Air Support operations and communications control.

A component of the BAO kit, the MTS is a wearable, combat-enabled tactical communications tool providing situational awareness and blue force tracking. It also functions as a precision strike tool that facilitates control of multiple mission-critical peripherals on a central display, eliminating battery and equipment redundancies and lightening the load on the operator.

With the MTS at the core, the overall solution reduces the time required for the JTAC to prosecute a target and increases accuracy and efficiency by allowing the operator to maximize the existing radio and air-asset capabilities during dismounted operations.

I was able to try out a version of the MTS last year. It is an impressive system that is integrated directly into an armor carrier. What really impressed me was that it is right there in front of you and you don’t have to pack up a laptop to move. You can quickly transition back and forth between the screen and your surroundings to maintain situational awareness.

You can run it through the paces as well at this week’s Warrior Expo East. Additionally, ADS Inc offers the MTS for units and organizations that require on the move computing but who are not part of this program of record.
