The Idea Isn’t Necassarily New, But The Implementation Is – Molly Stix

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

When National Molding sent us info on the Molly Stix earlier this week, my first thought was, “Yes, I see what you’ve done here.”

According to National Molding:
Molly Stixs are easily woven between the webbing and with a simple flip of the top latch they are locked in place. Molly Stixs secure and stabilize the accessory onto the pack or armor and when in comes time to remove the item a quick flip of the locking tab or tug on the optional lanyard and the item if few in seconds. Two or more can be linked together with para-cord and released in unison

The idea is simple, it’s just that nobody has done it yet, at least specifically for PALS. The first time I saw something like this on a tactical product was in the early 80s. The Lowe Alpine Systems LOCO pack had a removable rappelling harness waist belt. It was held in place on the pack with a tethered, rubber-coated aluminum bar that was inserted between webbing. Two pieces were on the pack and the third piece was the weight bearing portion of the waist belt strap. It worked and this will too.

A-TACS FG – See It Here First

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

At 1200 EST today, A-TACS will simultaneously update their website, Facebook fan page and officially release the highly anticipated FG (Forest/Green) pattern.

This might be an overused word, but when I saw these photos I literally said to myself, “Awesome.” When Digital Concealment Systems went about developing a new woodland pattern, they didn’t just adjust the color palette of their existing A-TACS AU (Arid/Urban) but rather developed a completely new pattern from the ground up based on the shapes found in dense biomass environments. Starting with their “pattern within a pattern” concept they added simulated depth to further break up the human silhouette. According to DCS, “the organic pixels in the micro patterns are grouped into larger, more defined “macro” shapes creating larger more defined patterns. The larger organic shapes and strategically placed shadow elements within the macro pattern help to create a unique three-dimensional effect never before seen in a tactical concealment system.

Behind the Curtain at SmartWool

Monday, October 24th, 2011

This video gives you an inside look at the manufacture of SmartWool socks at their factory in the US. It’s a cool video that shows you the machinery at work and gives you a good idea of how the socks are made.

However, please remember, not all SmartWool products are manufactured here and although there are Merino sheep here in the US, Merino Wool is a product of New Zealand.
